CellMatt ®

The great benefit of Graphite Resources' steam autoclaving system is the generation of usable products at the end of the process.

One of the outputs, CellMatt ® fibre, produced as part of the treatment process, has many potential uses. These include:

  • Bio-fuels - second generation bio-ethanol, bio-diesel and bio-butanol - non-crop base derived
  • Use as a fuel to be co-fired in conventional and biomass power stations
  • Conversion to bio-gas using anaerobic digestion technology to produce fuel for industrial boilers, road vehicles and even to be put into the gas distribution network
  • Use in the construction industry to produce bricks and insulation boards or mixed with other materials to create composite products
  • Feedstock for fuel cell production
  • Soil manufacture

What is anaerobic digestion?

Currently, much of our biodegradable waste such as food, garden waste, card and paper is sent to landfill, where it breaks down to release methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a treatment that breaks down biomass material in the absence of oxygen, producing a biogas that can be harnessed to generate electricity and heat; power vehicles or to fire industrial boilers.

Producing renewable energy from our CellMatt ® fibre will help tackle climate change, instead of contributing to climate change.

It is with that aim that Graphite Resources is engaging with universities and other research institutions to develop better ways of exploiting the energy preserved within the CellMatt ® fibre.

So Graphite Resources' steam autoclaving system has all round benefits - environmentally it helps to reach EU diversion targets and practically it makes the whole recycling process easier, quicker and safer and with a beneficial carbon footprint.
