Carbon Management
We are all becoming aware of our carbon role as more and more of us start to buy environmentally friendly lightbulbs, compost food waste and reuse our plastic bags when we go shopping.
Waste should be seen as a resource instead of a burden as the consequences of climate change and the need to reduce carbon emissions are critical issues for everyone. However, the extent and scope of this is often not fully understood.
The issues are:
- Energy prices, these are expected to increase significantly over the next few years
- Legislation from Europe and UK as governments attempt to manage the climate change agenda
- Investor and consumer pressures as stakeholders choose to invest in and buy from environmentally conscious companies
- Loss of business and increased insurance premiums due to extreme weather patterns
Richard Mair, development director from Graphite Resources says: "Graphite Resources provides a systematic approach to managing the risks and realising the opportunities that climate change presents.
Today's carbon economy means that Graphite Resources can help reduce our carbon footprint.
The EcoParcs will dramatically reduce the tonnage of waste sent to landfill, without releasing the carbon emissions associated with incineration. It will recycle municipal (black bag) solid waste (MSW) together with a range of commercial and industrial wastes."
The key benefits of Graphite Resource's carbon management system are both financial and environmental:
- Significantly reduces the tonnage of wastes going to landfill
- With rising levels of Landfill Tax and the increasing costs of operating landfill sites, autoclaving will be no more expensive than landfill and will help local authorities avoid punitive landfill diversion fines
- Autoclaving helps augment recycling levels achieved by kerbside recycling by capturing recyclates that are still left within black bag waste
- Local authorities have greater flexibility for their future recycling strategies by enabling the same levels of recycling to be achieved using fewer vehicles on the road
- Local authorities can reach their recycling and landfill diversion targets much faster and more cost effectively
- Positive improvement on the built environment using modern facilities of high architectural merit on established industrial estates
- Allows flexibility in respect of future waste composition, future energy needs and future changes in legislation
Waste is a valuable renewable resource to Graphite Resources. Many other groups, institutions and individuals are now coming to that realisation. Graphite Resources' carbon management ensures that the maximum benefit will be derived from that resource, giving better carbon options for all our futures.
